4Word are thrilled to announce the official launch of Rachel Davies’s outstanding debut collection – Every Day I Promise Myself. Rachel was a successful candidates in our submissions call-out, and these impressive poems really stood out upon the very first reading.
Rachel’s work is already well known through such publications as The North, Interpreter’s House, Obsessed With Pipework, Riggwelter, Atrium, Beautiful Dragons anthologies and in Please Hear What I’m Not Saying, published in aid of mental health charities. Rachel has an MA in Creative Writing and a PhD in contemporary poetry, both from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Rachel Davies’s poems of mothers and motherhood – populated by an irrepressible cast of characters from Boudicca to Rhona the Ratgirl – sparkle with humour and touch the heart with humanity. (Jean Sprackland)
This is an exciting debut from an assured voice with something to say. Always interesting and always varied in terms both of subject matter and approach, these are poems that make up that rare thing, a page-turner of a collection, and much more than the sum of its parts. (Peter Sansom)
Rachel is organising the launch of Every Day I Promise Myself… on 16th December at 19.30. Christmas jumpers, mulled wine, mince pies, crackers. I’m reading from the pamphlet, obviously; Hilary Robinson is also reading and we’re having some open mic slots. I want an inclusive party atmosphere.
If you would like to join this event, please see the link below. 4Word cannot recommend this collection enough – it would make a brilliant Christmas present for a poetry lover – as would any of our pamphlets.
